FDA Clears Hisamitsu OTC Pain Relief Patches

Hisamitsu Pharmaceutical, a Japan-based manufacturer of external pain relieving drugs, has released two FDA approved over-the-counter pain relief patches, Salonpas Pain Relief Patch and Arthritis Pain for the US market.

Hisamitsu Pharmaceutical said that the Salonpas Pain Relief Patch/Salonpas Arthritis Pain patches are formulated for the temporary relief of the mild to moderate aches and pains of the muscles and joints associated with arthritis, sprains, strains, bruises and simple backaches experienced by patients age 18 or older.

Salonpas analgesic patches, developed in Japan, contain 10% methyl salicylate and 3% I-menthol as the active pharmaceutical ingredients. They also offer an alternative for people who have a difficulty swallowing such as children or the elderly.

Hisamitsu Pharmaceutical claimed that the patches are ideally suited for seniors, workers, athletes and others. New Salonpas patches are effective for up to 12 hours, which contrasts with competing brands that are viable only up to 8 hours.
