GSK to sell Lucozade, Ribena soft drink brands

GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) has decided to sell its soft drink brands Lucozade and Ribena, that could fetch more than £1bn.

The plan was announced along with the company’s first-quarter results that revealed the sales drop by 3% compared to previous year.

According to GSK, the decision to pursue divestment was subject to appropriate value realization.

In february 2013, the company launched a ‘strategic review’ of the two brands. Most analysts focused on the idea of sale.

Lucozade was launched in 1927 and Ribena was introduced 10 years later.

Developed as an isotonic carbohydrate-electrolyte drink, Lucozade Sport is designed to help maintain fluid and electrolyte balance, in addition to endurance exercise performance, relative to water alone.

Ribena is a fruit-based uncarbonated and carbonated soft drink and fruit drink concentrate containing real blackcurrant juice.
