The company has signed a leasing agreement in the Coyol Free Trade Zone and Business Park in Alajuela, Costa Rica, and plans to invest more than $4m in the plant that will be ISO 13485 certified and employ more than 100 people.
Helix Medical expects this facility to begin production in the first quarter of 2012, and offer contract manufacturing services including silicone extrusion, silicone molding, thermoplastic molding, and assembly operations.
Helix Medical vice president Andy Becker said since Costa Rica offers a large medical device community with a skilled workforce and a good reputation for security and infrastructure, Helix Medical chose it to be close to its Latin American customers.
