Ind-Swift, an Indian pharmaceutical company, in collaboration with its marketing partner Wockhardt UK launched the generic formulations of atorvastatin drug in UK on the first day of its patent expiry.

Atorvastatin (lipitor) is used for the treatment of high cholesterol and prevention of heart attack.
The drug was launched in all the strengths including 10mg, 20mg, 40mg and 80 mg.
The active pharmaceutical ingredient required for the product was supplied from the USFDA and MHRA approved plant of Ind-Swift Laboratories and the formulations were manufactured and supplied from Ind-Swift facility located at Jawaharpur, India.
Wockhardt UK managing director Sirjiwan Singh said, "With increase in demand for cost effective drug for cardiovascular diseases, this generic launch is an excellent example of collaboration efforts of the two companies in leveraging on mutual strengths and competencies."
