Janssen San Diego facility expands for additional life-science research

Janssen Labs, part of Janssen Research & Development, has added concept lab and an open collaboration space for individual entrepreneurs and additional life-science start-ups.

Shared laboratory, concept lab, offers entrepreneurs access to single bench spaces for early stage research prior to committing additional capital.

Open collaboration space, an open-plan office setting, offers desk space facilitating interactions with other life-science entrepreneurs to companies and individuals.

Janssen West Coast Research Center head Diego Miralles said, "With the addition of the Concept Lab and Open Collaboration Space, we now can welcome additional scientists and tech entrepreneurs who will bring unique perspectives that can enrich our life science community."

The additional capacity facilitates accessible, economical options for entrepreneurs for preclinical proof-of-concept, as they can use big company infrastructure, equipment and resources.

Companies and individuals will have access to more than 70 pieces of common equipment, in addition to essential laboratory infrastructure, such as fume hoods, refrigeration, emergency power, emergency shower/eyewash, conference rooms and high-speed internet.

All companies and individuals residing at Janssen Labs are applicable for no-strings-attached model.

The expansion allows individuals to start their work in a capital-efficient manner and can move into larger, private space at Janssen Labs when needed.
