Johnson & Johnson recalls 32 million boxes of Cilest birth control pill

Johnson & Johnson (J&J) has recalled nearly 32 million boxes of the Cilest birth control pill from 43 countries due to reduced contraceptive effect as the dissolving rate of an active ingredient in the tablet was found to be slow.

Noting that the recall was a voluntary prevent measure, a J&J spokeswoman was quoted by Pharmalot as saying, "The risk to women is considered to be very low as there is no impact on the safety or efficacy of the product."

The recall excludes the US market and specifically affects the wholesale and pharmacy level, which includes 179 batches with each batch containing 180,000 boxes on the consumer level.

In the recent past, around 3.3 million bottles of Tylenol Drops were recalled by the healthcare firm in Brazil citing that the dropper has some defect which was resulting in an overdose.
