Laboratory Corporation of America Holdings (LabCorp), a in vitro diagnostics company, has appointed Mark Elliott Brecher to serve as its chief medical officer (CMO). Before joining LabCorp as CMO, Brecher served as vice chair of the department of pathology and laboratory medicine at the McLendon Clinical Laboratories, University of North Carolina Hospitals.

Brecher is a member of the editorial boards of Transfusion and Blood Therapies in Medicine and is an associate editor of the Journal of Clinical Apheresis. He is the immediate past chair of the Department of Health and Human Services Advisory Committee on Blood Safety and Availability and a past president of the American Society for Apheresis.
Brecher is a leader in the field of pathology, with research published in a wide variety of journals including the New England Journal of Medicine, The Lancet and the Mayo Clinic Proceedings.
