Lanxess vice president and managing director Elie Saad was quoted by MEED as saying that the company has several projects it is looking at.
"We are doing the feasibility and assessing raw materials availability," Saad added.
Lanxess requires a stable supply of butadiene to build downstream chemicals operations, according to the news agency.
Lanxess is a producer of synthetic rubber, plastics and fine chemicals.
