Lanxess has acquired the Nipacide PTAP product line from Clariant effective January 1, 2010. The active ingredient, p-tert-amylphenol (PTAP) complements the phenolic active ingredients portfolio of Lanxess’ Material Protection Products (MPP) business unit. The financial details of the transaction have not been disclosed.
Reportedly, Lanxess is expected to market the active ingredient under the tradename, Preventol PTAP. It can be used alone or in combination with ortho-phenylphenol (Preventol O extra) and chlorophen (Preventol BP), which are also marketed by MPP in hospital, household, industrial and veterinary disinfectants.
Torsten Derr, head of the MPP business unit at Lanxess, said: “The acquisition of the PTAP business strengthens our position as the supplier of phenolic active ingredients to the disinfection market.”
A US-based specialty chemicals company, Lanxess has 46 production sites worldwide. The core business of Lanxess is the development, manufacturing and marketing of plastics, rubber, intermediates and specialty chemicals.
