Macular Health introduces first ocular nutrition oral thin film delivery method

Macular Health's Visual Advantage has introduced MacuStrip Premier, its new oral thin film (OTF) delivery method.

Macular Health president and CEO Jeffery McAnnally will announce the new product at the 2014 Optometry’s Marketplace at SECO International in Atlanta, Georgia, on 14 March 2014.

McAnnally noted that Macular Health’s Visual Advantage has patented a unique OTF delivery method that will change the way AMD nutrition is delivered.

"Our new OTF technology will provide maximal delivery of nutrients by using higher concentrations of the active ingredients shown by the AREDS 2 study to be most effective in slowing or preventing vision loss due to AMD by placing them on an easy-to-use OTF strip that is applied to the cheek or tongue.

"The OTF will improve patient compliance by eliminating the need to swallow a pill and curbing the stomach irritation many patients experience," said McAnnally.

The recently released AREDS 2 study confirmed that the added ingredients and formulation created by Dr Jon O. Mason, III, a retina surgeon from the Callahan Eye Foundation Hospital at the University of Alabama at Birmingham who introduced the Macular Health eye supplement with McAnnally, as the most effective of four different formulations tested in the study in slowing or preventing vision loss due to AMD.

An OTF delivery method has never before been seen in ocular nutrition. This new OTF technology will change the way ocular nutrition is delivered by bypassing the gastro-intestine track and instantly getting the essential ingredients into the blood stream.
