Mylan introduces generic Micronor tablets in US

US-based Mylan Pharmaceuticals has introduced generic equivalent to Micronor tablets, 0.35mg (28-day cycle) indicated for the prevention of pregnancy in the US.

Norethindrone Tablets USP, 0.35mg, are the generic version of Janssen Pharmaceuticals’ Micronor tablets, 0.35mg for 28-day cycle formulated to prevent pregnancy.

The launch follows the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approval of abbreviated new drug application of the product to Mylan’s partner, Famy Care.

Micronor is a type of hormonal contraceptive commonly known as the ‘mini pill’ or progestogen-only pill that contains the active ingredient norethisterone, which is a synthetic progestogen, similar to the natural progestogens produced by the body.

Sales of Norethindrone Tablets USP, 0.35mg in the US for the 12 months ending on 31 March 2013 were approximately $57.2m, according to IMS Health data.
