Available in oral spray and roll-on applications, Cobrynol medication contains Asian cobra venom as an active ingredient.
In the US, the concept of using cobra venom as an analgesic was based from the research, which showed that the analgesic effects of cobra venom in minute doses were far superior to the effects of morphine.
Ocean Pharmaceuticals CEO Jeffrey Friedman said, "It’s a clinically-proven, innovative pain relief medication in an arena where people with chronic Stage 2 pain currently do not have many options."
The company, which has developed a line of Cobrynol products as an alternative to NSAIDs such as aspirin, acetaminophen and ibuprofen as well as highly addictive opiates such as morphine, Vicodin, OxyContin and Percocet, said the new OTC product will be available for purchase at its products site and at select retail locations.
