Pacific Biosciences launches PacBio RS Software

Pacific Biosciences has unveiled a new software to trace DNA base modifications associated with epigenetic regulation and DNA damage using the PacBio RS,a high resolution genetic analyser.

DNA base modifications, such as methylation, play an important role in biological processes such as growth and ageing, immunity, bacterial pathogenicity and disease development.

The new analysis software enables customers to detect and visualise the DNA changes.

The solution functions by measuring the rate of DNA base incorporation during sequencing.

The information, which is automatically gathered during the sequence process, is a feature of the company’s single molecule, real-time (SMRT) technology.

The SMRT analysis tool works on any data generated by the PacBio RS with its latest C2 chemistry, allowing researchers to re-analyze existing data to detect methylation and other base modifications.

Pacific Biosciences Market Development Senior Vice President Kevin Corcoran said,"We are pleased to provide the first and only tool that offers researchers worldwide the ability to detect base modifications as an integral part of the sequencing workflow."
