Quality Chemical to develop Tenofovir

Uganda-based pharmaceuticals manufacturing company, Quality Chemical Industries, is all set to begin the manufacture of Antiretroviral (ARV) drug, Tenofovir, one tablet of which can be swallowed per day.

The company is installing new equipment in the Luzira based plant as part of their $50 m second phase investment, newvision.co.ug reported.

The plant is expected to be operational in December.

Quality Chemicals chief commercial officer George Baguma said the company hopes to become a ledaing producer of medicines for malaria and HIV/AIDS in Africa.

"We are doing well with the Ugandan market and are supplying ARV drugs to half of the population that need it but we need to also capture the entire (East African Community) EAC market, " Baguma added.
