Quintiles central laboratory receives CAP 15189 accreditation

The Georgia-located central laboratory of Quintiles, a fully integrated biopharmaceutical services company offering clinical, commercial, consulting and capital solutions, has received accreditation from the College of American Pathologists (CAP) 15189 Accreditation Program.

The lab was accredited for being one of a limited number of central labs in the US to meet the rigorous requirements for medical laboratory quality, and competence laid down by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO).

With the CAP 15189 accreditation in its kitty, Quintiles has achieved a best practices standard in lab-related quality management systems.

It is well-positioned to respond to the dynamic healthcare environment and demonstrate measurable quality to customers.

Quintiles Global Central Laboratories senior vice president Thomas Wollman said the company has the largest CAP-accredited central laboratory network in the world, and the CAP 15189 Accreditation Program is a natural extension of its quality program.

CAP 15189 Committee former chair Cordelia Sever said that CAP believes laboratories which strive to be in the top tenth percentile in quality will benefit from this standard, and the College is proud to make it available to American laboratories.

Currently, the 15189 Standard is not mandated in the US.

CAP 15189 is a voluntary, non-regulatory accreditation to the ISO 15189:2007 Standard.

It utilizes specific criteria, processes and procedures to determine laboratory technical competence.

All Quintiles laboratories across the world, be it wholly owned facilities in the US, Europe, South Africa, India, China, Singapore and Japan, or affiliate labs in Argentina and Brazil, operate with uniform instrumentation and standard operating procedures.
