Quintiles Opens Clinical Research Facility In Kenya

Quintiles, a US-based biopharma services company offering clinical, commercial, consulting and capital solutions, has expanded its clinical research capacity in Africa by opening an office in Nairobi, Kenya.

Quintiles said that a team of local clinical professionals is expected to monitor throughout East Africa, enhancing its capability to provide clinical research services across the continent. They will complement the work done by Quintiles Ghana office, which opened in June 2009, and Quintiles established offices in South Africa, with a focus on endemic diseases such as malaria, TB and HIV.

Additionally, the future possibilities for additional clinical research include studies in areas of growing disease prevalence such as heart disease, diabetes and cancer.

Gillian Corken, CEO of Quintiles Africa, said: “Like other non-traditional regions before it, Africa will become an important geography for us to reach large populations of patients for a range of therapy areas including oncology and cardiovascular. Our experience in Ghana has enabled us to effectively scale across the continent using the same procedures among the local talent and expertise.”
