SDHFT commences construction of new pharma manufacturing unit in England

South Devon Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust (SDHFT) has commenced the construction of a new Pharmaceutical Manufacturing Centre (PMU) near Paignton in England.

The new center, which will see an investment of £20m, will include two floors and occupies 6,257m² space.

The building is scheduled to be completed by late 2014 and will consolidate SDHFT’s existing production, storage and office functions, that are currently provided across three sites.

SDHFT CEO Paula Vasco-Knight said the trust’s new PMU aims to become an important business point, which will manufacture and sell essential pharmaceuticals to hospitals throughout the UK and internationally, with any operating surplus being re-invested back into the local NHS and patient care.

"This development demonstrates our commitment to the Torbay area and is in line with our strategic vision for growth in this sector, which could see up to 70 highly skilled jobs being created at the unit," Knight added.
