Smile Brands develops web app for dentists

Smile Brands has designed a web app, based on HTML5, for use on iPad that would enable dentists to simplify their charting workflow whilst eliminating the errors and duplication of data entries.

The touch-screen application, which has been developed using Sencha’s Touch platform, provides a representation of a patient’s teeth digitally, which ultimately enables dentists to streamline their charting, reported eWeek.

Besides, it provides scheduling facility and a guide to what treatments are available and a method of interacting with peers in the field. This app can also be used for management of revenues and bills.

Smile Brands application development vice president Marlin Clark was quoted by eWeek as saying that the company intended to develop an app to handle practice management following the break down of paper-based legacy system to gather clinical information and manage documentation.

While working on a patient, when a dentist calls out clinical information, the documentation of the patient visits can be noted in the iPad app by a dental assistant.

"We needed to introduce an easy way to capture that information as it happens in the exam process," Clark said.

"So we introduced a restorative charting application on the iPad to allow them to capture the clinical information that’s being dictated by the provider."

With the help of this app, dental clinics and third-party support providers can eliminate the chances of errors during the data transfer, which was earlier done on paper, Clark explained.

Presently in beta mode, Smile Brands is mulling to commercialize the app.
