The Society of Chemical Manufacturers and Affiliates (SOCMA) has appointed Lawrence Sloan as president and CEO of the association, effective February 10, 2010. Sloan succeeds Joseph Acker, who will retire from SOCMA at the end of the month, after more than 16 years of combined service to the organisation.
Sloan previously served as president of the Adhesive and Sealant Council (ASC). He joined the Council in 2001 as director member services and was promoted to senior director before assuming the presidency in 2005.
Reportedly, Sloan started his career as a chemical engineer at Air Products & Chemicals in Allentown and later worked for Nalco Chemical in Naperville in marketing, manufacturing and sales. He entered the non-profit sector in 2000 as membership director for the Consumer Specialty Products Association.
Charles Hinnant, chairman of board of governors at SOCMA, said: Larry Sloan’s background as a chemical engineer, coupled with his extensive work in the non-profit sector and years in the chemical industry, make him an ideal choice for SOCMA. We are confident that under his leadership, SOCMA will grow stronger and secure greater victories in Washington for the batch, custom and specialty chemical industry.”
Sloan, would be president and CEO of SOCMA, said: “I have observed SOCMA’s many strengths as the voice of the batch, custom and specialty chemical industry throughout the year, and am excited and eager to assume this position. I look forward to working with SOCMA member companies and professional staff members to strengthen and expand the organisation in the years to come.”
