SOCMA Discusses TSCA Reform With EPA

To discuss the batch chemical industry’s priorities for TSCA reform

SOCMA had met with representatives of the EPA and the White House’s Office of Management and Budget (OMB) to discuss the batch chemical industry’s priorities for TSCA reform.

SOCMA staff highlighted the elements of TSCA that have worked well, namely the new chemicals program and section 8(e), and discussed how some areas could be improved. SOCMA, also outlined the problems with REACh and the Kid-Safe Chemicals Act, as anticipated, and talked about the consequences of such legislation, particularly, to small and medium sized businesses.

EPA may announce its position on TSCA this fall, and likely make further attempts to more fully implement TSCA sections 4 and 6 as it considers changes to ChAMP. These sections have received substantial flak as being overly burdensome to the agency. SOCMA’s goal is to ensure that influential stakeholders continue to hear the voice of batch manufacturers.
