Study finds health benefits from infant formula with InFat

A study sponsored by Enzymotec has demonstrated the benefits of a high beta-palmitate fat combination, InFat, on health and well-being of child when fed with infant formula.

The double-blind study demonstrated considerable boost in the intestinal flora of the infants such as Lactobacilli and Bifidobacteria, when fed with InFat.

Multicenter study designed to assess the effect of patented InFat on the intestinal flora of infants was conducted at the Neonatology departments of Bnai Zion Medical Center, Israel, and Meir Medical Center, Israel.

Enzymotec Infant Nutrition R&D director Yael Lifshitz said, "This trial indicates that InFat can significantly improve infant formula, making it closer to mother’s milk in terms of infants’ flora composition."

Clinical trial randomized a total of 36 term infants, 14 breast-fed and 22 formula-fed, with either InFat or a control formula.

Bacteria present in the gut flora were quantified using the stool samples collected from the study subjects during enrollment and after six weeks postnatal.
