University Of Leeds Opens New Process Development Laboratory

University of Leeds has a new laboratory, which will focus on making small scale process development more greener, cheaper and effective. The laboratory was built with an investment of E4.4m.

The new facility has analytical, batch and continuous processing equipment, a 20-50 litre, ATEX-compliant, testing and production facility, reaction hazard and process testing calorimeters and a suite of on-line PAT equipment, reported in-Pharma.

The new facility is also designed to conduct contract manufacturing activities, in addition to process development.

John Blacker, technical director of the Institute of Process Research and Development (iPRD), said: “It will focus on creating ‘[innovative] processes for specific commercial challenges’.

“This will enable smaller companies to access chemical process and manufacturing R&D, thereby improving their competitiveness and green credentials without the conventional barriers of high research costs.”
