Watson introduces generic version of Lipitor

Watson Pharmaceuticals has introduced a generic version of Lipitor (atorvastatin calcium tablets) as part of its agreement with Pfizer.

Lipitor is indicated as an adjunct to diet to reduce elevated total cholesterol, LDL, triglycerides and to increase HDL cholesterol.

As per the deal, Pfizer manufactures and supplies Watson with all dosage strengths of the generic drug and Watson markets and distributes the product in the US.

Pfizer is entitled to receive a share of the net sales from Watson’s sales of the product.

Further details of the deal have not been disclosed.
