Recently, there has been a significant number of publications discussing problems associated with the global supply and increased cost of helium gas.

Many of these have been produced by gas chromatography (GC) instrumentation and gas generator manufacturers, highlighting an expected increase in the use of hydrogen as an alternative to helium for use as a GC carrier gas.
