The number of new diagnoses of osteoporosis is estimated at 885,000 people a year for Germany alone, and the International Osteoporosis Foundation predicts that there are some 200 million people with the condition worldwide.
More than half of the individuals investigated in a study suffered at least one bone fracture during the study period. According to estimates, a bone fracture caused by osteoporosis occurs every three seconds worldwide.
