Non-adherence of chronic patients to medication regimens is a highly prevalent and critical issue that results in an unsustainable economic burden to health systems worldwide. For instance, it has been proven that the higher the patient adherence to medication, the lower the health spending in type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM) patients, decrease the total health spending by $1,074 per patient, which could lower the burden on public healthcare systems due to the high prevalence for T2DM.
