RSDecon, a business of Bracco Diagnostics, and Counter Terrorism Solutions have received approval for the importation and use of RSDL chemical warfare agent skin decontamination lotion from the Therapeutic Goods Administration, Australia’s regulatory agency for medical drugs and devices.
A patented, broad-spectrum liquid chemical warfare (CW) agent decontaminant, RSDL neutralizes or removes CW agents and T2 toxin from skin on contact, leaving a non-toxic residue that can be rinsed off with water. Unlike water or powder-based technologies, which can smear or spread the CW agent, RSDL decontaminates or removes these agents from the skin. In the case of large-scale contamination, RSDL can be self-applied, thus reducing the danger to victims awaiting other procedures, said RSDecon.
Receipt of the Therapeutic Goods Administration’s (TGA’s) approval ensures that RSDL meets Australian standards of quality, safety and efficacy. Counter Terrorism Solutions will distribute RSDL, which received the FDA’s clearance in 2003 and a CE Mark certifying that it met EU medical device requirements in 2008.
Bill Scott, senior director of sales at RSDecon, said: The TGA’s approval enables us to put RSDL into the hands of those who truly need it. As global terrorism continues to rise, accessibility to RSDL is vital for all military and first responders in Australia, the Pacific Rim and around the world.
