TCS announces link-up with biotech company Congenia

Tata Consultancy Services, India's largest software services exporter, has announced what it claims is the first major tie-up between an IT company and a biotech firm.

Mumbai-based TCS has won a contract with Congenia, a start-up subsidiary of Italian biotech company Genextra SpA, to provide software that will help Congenia with its research into age-related diseases.

TCS will also provide data analysis services from its life sciences center in Hyderabad. The optimized lead molecules produced by TCS will be further developed by Congenia through animal trials and eventually human clinical trials.

The value of the 18-month deal was not disclosed.
