Data Reduction Systems gets nod for electronic drugs data collection tool

Union, New Jersey-based Data Reduction Systems has received a patent for its PharmaSync electronic data collection tool, designed for pharmaceutical companies.

Data Reduction Systems (DRS) said it developed the tool as an alternative to paper based methods, which track prescription drug samples slated for distribution at some future date. The PharmaSync is designed to carry out all tracking and distribution activities in real time, which according to the company will speed the dissemination of data and improve data integrity.

The new tool also aims to help organizations manage and comply with compliance requirements mandated by the Prescription Drug Marketing Act (PDMA).

It works like this: a pharmaceutical company representative transmits a request using a Windows Mobile hand held device to distribute samples to a specific physician to the company’s systems server. The system automatically confirms the rep’s authority to distribute the samples and the recipient’s authority to receive them. The transaction request is then evaluated against the pharmaceutical company’s business rules and an authorization code is issued. Finally, the content and quantity of the shipment is deducted from the local and central inventories and the samples can then be distributed to the validated practitioner.

“PharmaSync is leading the charge from reliance on mature to leading edge technologies,” said Rick McQuade, president of DRS. “By doing so, not only can sample accountability activities be handled in real time, but they can also be managed easier and more efficiently.”
