Study says DHA in Anmum supports growth and development

A new clinical study has revealed that the increased dietary intake of the docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) by pregnant mothers supports the development of infants in the womb.

Anmum products including Anmum Materna for pregnant women, contain DHA as their major ingredient.

The new study, which included 350 women, was designed to evaluate whether an increased intake of DHA during the prenatal period could increase gestation duration and birth size.

The clinical study principal investigator Susan Carlson said that the supplementation of DHA resulted in an overall longer gestation period as well as greater infant size.

"This appears to be due to significant reduction in early preterm and very-low birth weight infants," Carlson added.

Fonterra General Manager Innovation and Regulatory Donna Le Quesne said that Anmum is committed to providing the best possible nutrition for women during pregnancy.

"The findings announced today show that the DHA in Anmum Materna can help by supporting a greater birth weight, length and head circumference," Quesne added.
