ICU Medical upgrades automated sterile compounding system Diana

US-based ICU Medical has launched a new version of Diana Hazardous Drug Compounding System for the European marketplace at the European Association of Hospital Pharmacists (EAHP) Congress in Paris.

The Diana system protects clinicians from exposure to hazardous drugs and needlesticks, while protecting the patient preparation from exposure to environmental contaminants.

The original version has been in clinical use in Europe for more than a year. The latest version includes an improved user interface and workflow enhancements for better safety and efficiency.

It provides automated checks and reminders to improve workflow efficiency and patient safety, and frees up pharmacists and technicians from many of the repetitive work required during preparation and Pharmacygirlreconstitution, reducing the stresses and injuries that can occur as a result.

ICU Medical European operations president Gabriele Giovanelli said the automated technologies require huge investments and do not fit within existing workflows, while the company’s new system works in a cost reducing way, which helps the pharmacists and technicians to control the compounding process from beginning to end.

"The system fits under the hood of a pharmacy’s existing biological safety cabinet to protect clinicians from exposure to hazardous drugs and accidental needlesticks, while protecting the patient preparation from exposure to environmental contaminants," Giovanelli added.
