French pharmaceutical group Sanofi-Aventis has reported adjusted net income of E1.9 billion for the third quarter of 2008, an increase of 1.9%, compared to E1.85 billion posted in the third quarter of 2007. Adjusted net income excluding selected items was E1.92 billion, up 2.1% from E1.88 billion in the third quarter of 2007.

The company reported net sales of E6.85 billion for the third quarter of 2008, an increase of 5.5% on a comparable basis. On a reported basis, the company posted a decrease of 2.4% in net sales, compared to E7.02 billion posted in the third quarter of 2007.
Adjusted earnings per share (EPS) for the third quarter of 2008 were E1.45, an increase of 5.8%, compared to E1.37 posted in the third quarter of 2007. Adjusted EPS excluding selected items were E1.47, an increase of 5%, compared to E1.40 for the corresponding period of 2007.
For the first nine months of 2008, Sanofi-Aventis recorded net sales of E20.48 billion, a decrease of 3.1%, compared with E21.14 billion in the same period in 2007.
For the first nine months of 2008, the company reported adjusted net income of E5.36 billion, a decrease of 5.2%, compared with E5.65 billion in the corresponding period of 2007. Adjusted net income excluding selected items was E5.56 billion, an increase of 0.5%, compared to E5.53 billion for the first nine months of 2007.
Adjusted earnings per share for the first nine months of 2008 were E4.09, a decrease of 2.2%, compared to E4.20 posted in the same period of 2007. Adjusted EPS excluding selected items were E4.24, an increase of 3.4%, compared to E4.10 for the first nine months of 2007.
