Showa Denko has entered into a collaboration agreement with Austria-based BIA Separations (BIASep) to expand its business of purification resins and to achieve good synergistic effect in terms of both technology and product mix.

Purification resins are used for refining desired components/chemicals from culture/reaction solutions for biopharmaceutical and industrial manufacturing processes.
Under the alliance, SDK will investment in BIASep as well as joint marketing and R&D activities.
SDK will utilize the protein analysis technology it has acquired through the Shodex business, as protein purification is important in the purifying process for biopharmaceuticals.
To ensure more efficient purification, BIASep will use its CIM Monoliths (CIM Convective Interaction Media).
In addition, SDK will acquire know-how concerning development, production, quality control, and marketing of purification resins, under the partnership with BIASep.
