Affymetrix, CPGR sign research deal in South Africa

Affymetrix and the Centre for Proteomic and Genomic Research (CPGR) have signed a deal to advance genomics research and personalized medicine studies in South Africa.

The CPGR will leverage Affymetrix GeneTitan multi-channel (MC) instrument to offer gene expression and Axiom genotyping services to researchers in the region.

CPGR Managing Director Dr Reinhard Hiller said, "The high throughput capability of GeneTitan® MC Instrument combined with customizable Axiom Genotyping Arrays is ideal for meeting the needs of scientists in Africa whose research projects range from small pilot to large-scale discovery to focused validation studies."

GeneTitan MC Instrument when integrated with Axiom Genotyping Arrays is expected to expand the genomics service capabilities and enable disease-related biomarker discovery.

Affymetrix international markets commercial operations VP Chris Barbazette said, "Affymetrix is leading the way in population optimized genotyping analysis and was the first to create a genotyping array with content derived specifically from African populations."
