Sound Surgical Technologies, a developer of ultrasonic medical devices, has appointed Mark Schafer as its new chief technology officer and vice president of R&D.

Dr Schafer is currently vice president of the Ultrasonic Industry Association, chairman of the National Electrical Manufacturers Association Ultrasound Technical Committee, and serves on the board of governors of the American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine.
Dr Schafer holds a PhD in biomedical engineering from Drexel University, an MS in acoustics from Pennsylvania State University and an SB in electrical engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
