BioCision to offer new CoolBox XT technology

BioCision has announced the launch of the CoolBox XT workstations designed for extended ice-free cooling (up to 18 hours) and includes CoolRack modules compatible with automation platforms.

The CoolBox XT technology, which does not require power, can be used as an alternative to the ice bucket.

The patent-pending technology reduces ice-related issues such as sample degradation due to contamination and can serve as a portable sample transport device.

BioCision CEO Rolf Ehrhardt said the new CoolBox XT technology addresses laboratory demands for extended cooling technology that provides the temperature of ice, without the intrinsic problems that come with its use.

"The CoolBox XT workstation outperforms currently available systems based on its extended cooling and freezing times, independence from power, and unique size options," Ehrhardt added.

The company will make the CoolBox XT technology available in July 2012.

CoolBox XT workstations are cooling systems that maintain a range of samples at cooling, freezing, or ultra-cold temperatures for hours, according to the company.

A cooling cartridge provides the temperature of ice (0-4°C) for up to 18 hours while a freezing cartridge that maintains a temperature of -20°C also will be available.

The modular CoolRack inserts, which are sized for automation, are compatible with robotic platforms.
