Ranbaxy offices raided by health authorities

Generic drug maker Ranbaxy has revealed that federal officials have conducted an unexpected raid at its New Jersey offices and manufacturing site.

It is believed that the raid was conducted by the Food and Drug Administration but the agency has not disclosed the reasons behind the search. Paper and electronic documents were taken during the raid.

Ranbaxy released a statement saying the action had come as a surprise and it is not aware of any wrong doing. The company stated it is co-operating fully with the officials.

The Indian-based company is one of the leading generic drug makers in the world and has just won approval to market the generic version of Pfizer’s best selling antidepressant Zoloft.
