According to the company, the weight control group – which markets Alli diet pills – and the smoking cessation group – which includes the NicoDerm, Nicorette and Commit products – will be combined into one single ‘behavioral sciences’ unit, which will be based in Parsippany.
Major brand operations like oral care products, including Aquafresh, Sensodyne, Polident, Poligrip, and other over-the-counter products, including Tums, Citrucel and FiberChoice, are likely to stay in Moon.
The company has appointed Karen Scollick, former general manager of GSK Consumer Healthcare’s Canadian business, as the head of behavioral sciences unit.
Recently, the company has also announced a 2% cut (around 350 workers) in its pharmaceutical division’s workforce as part of its restructuring activities. In addition the company has also laid off nine directors from its local offices.
Pittsburgh Post-Gazette quoted Malesia Dunn, spokeswoman of GSK, as saying: “Consumer Healthcare in the US is undergoing reorganization to better position the business for future growth.”
