Researchers from VTT and MSI have opened a joint research center for basic and applied research on engineering cells and molecules, Berkeley, California.

The research center will comprise international, collaborative research projects between researchers at the Molecular Sciences Institute (MSI) of Berkeley, California and VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland.
The project aims to enhance the production of bio-based chemicals and proteins, develop novel quantitative tools for the detection of toxins, chemicals and biological markers of disease.
Main emphasis will be laid on novel method for detecting prostate cancer.
VTT president and CEO Erkki Leppävuori said the agreement would help them develop new applications and technologies, providing scalable solutions to improve the quality of life.
