The colon-screen will use Phloral coating technology to deliver the drug to the target site by applying two mechanisms to trigger drug release.
The mechanism is based on pH dependant coating and a resistant starch component which breakes down by the microbiota in the colonic region.
Coatings that rely on a pH dependant system have the potential to be unreliable due to the large intra and inter patient variability in transit times and luminal pH.
The combination of a colonic targeting technology and the delivery of drugs in a liquid dosage form using Encap’s liquid fill technologies provides an advance for the oral delivery of a wide range of drugs to the colon.
