Mexico issues GMP certificate to Sinovac

The Mexican government has issued good manufacturing practice (GMP) certificate to a China-based vaccine manufacturer Sinovac Biotech for its seasonal flu vaccine and hepatitis A vaccine.

The certificate has been issued by the Federal Commission for the Protection Against Sanitary Risk (COFEPRIS) of Mexico Ministry of Health.

Prior to the issuing of the certificate, COFEPRIS has conducted inspection and scrutinized Sinovac’s site at Beijing headquarters in September 2010.

Sinovac chairman, president and CEO Weidong Yin said they plan to submit the additional documentations for their seasonal flu vaccine Anflu, required by COFEPRIS to complete the registration process.

"We anticipate that the certificate of Approval for Anflu will be granted in the coming months in order to commercially launch the vaccine in Mexico," Yin said.

"We plan to initiate the registration process for our inactivated hepatitis A vaccine Healive in Mexico after the Certificate of Approval is granted for Anflu."
