The US Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) has awarded a method and composition patent to Arch Biopartners' biofilm inhibitor.

The patent allows Arch Biopartners to develop methods to prevent or inhibit the growth of biofilm formation on biotic and abiotic surfaces.
The method modifies solid surfaces to prevent biofilm formations, particularly those caused by Pseudomonas aeruginosa.
The biofilm inhibitor was invented at the University of Colorado and the University of Alberta.
Biofilm formation is found on abiotic surfaces at hospitals and the medical implant industry.
