Ortho-McNeil-Janssen Pharma calls back schizophrenia drug

Ortho-McNeil-Janssen Pharmaceuticals has called back around 16,000 bottles of schizophrenia drug Risperdal (risperidone) 3mg Tablets, following complaints of uncharacteristic odor of a chemical preservative TBA (2,4,6 tribromoanisole).

The recalled products include one lot of Risperdal (risperidone) 3mg Tablets and one lot of risperidone 2mg Tablets.

Risperdal (risperidone) 3mg Tablets are marketed by Ortho-McNeil-Janssen Pharma’s Janssen Division, while Patriot Pharmaceuticals is marketing risperidone 2mg Tablets.

The company has started recalling the drug in the US and Puerto Rico at the wholesale and retail (pharmacy) level.

Further, the company has advised consumers to stop taking the drug until further intimation, though the drug has not yet reported any adverse event.
