Sosei to introduce emergency contraceptive pill NorLevo in Japan

Sosei Co, a Japanese subsidiary of Sosei Group, is set to introduce emergency contraceptive pill NorLevo Tablets 0.75mg, through its distribution partner ASKA Pharmaceutical.

NorLevo is to be taken within 72 hours following an unprotected sexual intercourse.

Laboratoire HRA Pharma has licensed the development and commercialization rights for NorLevo Tablets to Sosei for Japan and Australia in April 2010.

The emergency contraceptive pill is currently approved in 50 countries.

Sosei signed a distribution agreement with ASKA Pharmaceutical in November 2009.

Sosei Group CEO Shinichi Tamura said they are proud that their first product has reached the market and that they can contribute to the health of Japanese women.

"Sosei will continue with its efforts to fulfil unmet medical needs in future," Tamura said.
