Quercegen gets FDA GRAS notified status for QU995 Quercetin

Massachusetts-based Quercegen Pharmaceuticals, a producer of plant-based nutrients for the pharmaceutical and nutraceutical industries and creator of Q-Force, was notified that its QU995, Quercetin (developed in collaboration with Merck SA), received GRAS (Generally Recognized As Safe) notified status on 22 November 2010 under the US Food and Drug Administration GRAS Inventory Number GRN 341.

Quercetin is a natural polyphenolic antioxidant flavonoid found in many plants, and plays an important role in the inhibition of enzymes involved in free radical production.

It can potentially be used for the prevention and alleviation of conditions that cause oxidative stress, and is now serving as a functional ingredient to foods, beverages and dietary supplements.

The GRAS notified status expands opportunities for QU995 Quercetin to be used by food manufacturers worldwide, and not be limited to dietary supplements.
