Dr Reddy’s introduces Zafirlukast tablets in US

Dr Reddy's Laboratories has introduced Zafirlukast tablets (10mg and 20mg), a bioequivalent generic version of Accolate, in the US market.

Accolate, an oral prescription medicine used to treat asthma, works by blocking substances in the body called leukotrienes, which may contribute to the asthma symptoms.

On 15 November 2010 the US District Court of New Jersey granted Dr Reddy’s motion for summary judgment of non-infringement against AstraZeneca clearing the way for the launch of the product.

Subsequently, Dr Reddy’s said that the US Food and Drug Administration approved its ANDA for Zafirlukast tablets on 18 November 2010.

Dr Reddy’s Zafirlukast tablets are available in bottles of 60 counts in 10mg and 20mg strengths.
