news.BioScrip has designated Richard 'Rick' Smith, the current president and chief operating officer of the company, as the new CEO, effective 1 January 2011.

Smith will replace Richard Friedman, who will be stepping down as CEO to serve as non-executive chairman of the BioScrip board of directors, effective 1 January 2011.
Prior to joining BioScrip, Smith was the CEO and a director of Byram Healthcare Centers, a provider of medical supplies and pharmacy items to long term chronic patients.
Before joining Byram, Smith was the president and chief operating officer of Option Care, a home infusion and specialty pharmaceutical company.
"Rick has made significant improvements to the operations of BioScrip – as demonstrated by the successful integration of the Critical Homecare Solutions acquisition – and now is the perfect time to transition leadership over to him," Friedman said.
