FDA Approves Perrigo To Manufacture, Distribute OTC Cetirizine Cherry Syrup

FDA has granted approval to Perrigo Company, to manufacture and market over-the-counter (OTC) Cetirizine Cherry Syrup,1mg/ml. Perrigo expects to begin Shipments in fiscal first quarter 2011.

Perrigo said that Cherry joins the currently available grape flavor cetirizine syrup in product portfolio, giving patients a choice of store brand flavors.

Perrigo claimed that Cetirizine Cherry Syrup is expected to be marketed under store brand labels and is comparable to McNeil Consumer Healthcare’s Zyrtec Children’s Allergy Syrup, indicated for indoor and outdoor allergy relief.

McNeil ‘s Zyrtec is an antihistamine that reduces the natural chemical histamine in the body. Histamine can produce symptoms of sneezing, itching, watery eyes, and runny nose.

Zyrtec is used to prevent or treat symptoms of hay fever and to treat cold or allergy symptoms such as sneezing, itching, watery eyes, or runny nose. Zyrtec is also used to treat itching and swelling caused by chronic urticaria (hives).
