Abbott said that similar to the FreeStyle Lite blood glucose test strips, the new FreeStyle test strips do not use the GDH-PQQ enzyme, which can be affected by common non-glucose sugars.
Abbott’s new FreeStyle test strips use a GDH-FAD enzyme which is unaffected by common non-glucose sugars, such as maltose or galactose, and minimises the potential for other interference.
Abbott stated that the new feature in the FreeStyle strips is easier-to-use tapered design with ZipWik tabs that offer a better blood glucose testing experience.
Abbott said that the first shipment of new FreeStyle test strips to US customers is expected to commence in August and available by the end of October 2010.
Heather Mason, senior vice president of Abbott Diabetes Care, said: “Abbott’s new FreeStyle test strips offer a technology that delivers on what patients and health care professionals demand in diabetes care. The technology minimises interference and is designed to make the new FreeStyle test strips easier to use.”
