Follows recently granted patents in the US, China and Taiwan

The Japan Patent Office has granted Avita Medical a Japanese patent entitled: Improved drug delivery device and methods therefore. The intellectual property covered under the patent follows patents recently granted in the US, China and Taiwan.

Reportedly, the patent relates to the incorporation of feedback and incentive mechanisms into devices for the improved delivery of medications and biologically active substances via the inhalation pathway.

The company said that the delivery of medication for the treatment and control of respiratory disease, diabetes and hypertension, as well as the delivery of anti-virals, anti-biotics and other biologically active substances represent emerging opportunities for the company’s patented technology.

William Dolphin, CEO of Avita Medical, said: “The delivery of medication via the inhalation pathway is becoming the technique of choice for a range of medical conditions. Additionally, the delivery of living cells in aerosol suspension via inhalation has tremendous potential for applications in regenerative medical technologies.”
